LIVE Auction #10
Merce Cunningham Musings and Art Book
Although known worldwide for his remarkable and continually groundbreaking choreography, Merce Cunningham has a twenty-six year secret: he draws! Not just choreographic notes for his dances, but animals and other musings inspired by his marvels at and revels in nature. His drawings have the same vision, openness, and attention to detail that infuses his great dances. Cunningham and his longtime collaborator, composer John Cage, often spoke about their work reflecting nature's process. In Cunningham’s visual work one senses nature in all her idiosyncratic glory -- a place for the unexpected and exotic and peculiar and even silly to roam free, coexist, and inspire the imagination. Live with a Cunningham drawing and understand how Cunningham, recently called the world's greatest living choreographer by the chief dance critic of the New York Times, Alastair Macaulay, looks at the world. A rare opportunity! These drawings will renew your spirits!
